Spencer Municipal Utilities’ (SMU) aging water plant was in need of an upgrade and increased capacity to serve the town’s growing population.
Bolton & Menk completed a preliminary engineering report to examine the city’s water supply, treatment, and storage facilities and assess the system’s capability to provide safe drinking water to meet the city’s projected demands while complying with the state’s proposed drinking water standards. In addition, a water distribution model was completed for the community.
The study provided capital improvement recommendations to meet the needs of SMU. The recommended improvements were constructed in phases to allow the plant to remain in service during the majority of construction. The new plant will better serve the community for the next 20 years.
