The Des Moines International Airport needed a new terminal building to accommodate its substantial increase in passenger traffic. The new terminal will be located near the northeast corner of the airport, where Des Moines Flying Service was previously located.

Bolton & Menk worked with airport engineering staff and Des Moines Flying Service staff to design a new building that accommodated their relocation and the anticipated growth of a new business line. The project included working with multiple disciplines to develop a facility that met their needs and was acceptable to Des Moines International Airport staff. The project included a 15,000 square foot hangar with a 28-foot by 120-foot large hangar door and almost 13,000 square feet of office, maintenance, and parts storage areas. Utility extensions, parking, access, an aircraft apron extension, and underground detention of fire suppression chemicals were all included.

The new Des Moines Flying Services facility provides adequate space to run its business, including a new business line, and create a new corporate area on the airfield.
