Aging utility infrastructure paired with deteriorating streets and uneven sidewalks were plaguing downtown Iowa Falls, creating mobility issues and contributing to depressed economic conditions. Bolton & Menk assisted the city with concept development, design, and reconstruction of 7 blocks of Washington Avenue and 1 block of side streets on Oak, Stevens, and Main Streets. Improvements to the west 3 blocks of Washington Avenue included concrete overlay with curb and gutter and sidewalk ramp replacement. The east 4 blocks of Washington Avenue, along with side streets, received full pavement reconstruction, utility replacement, and the addition of streetscape amenities.
Bolton & Menk’s design services included public input and client meeting facilitation, streetscape design, Iowa DOT and bid coordination assistance, and contractor selection coordination. Construction services included construction administration and observation, along with facilitation of construction progress meetings. Full-time construction observation was provided with field review, daily observation reports, material certification, and quantity verification.
