Home / 17th Street N Corridor Study in Moorhead, Fargo-Moorhead Metropolitan Council of Governments
Bolton & Menk and Toole Design conducted a study to ensure the corridor accommodates existing needs and prepares for the City of Moorhead and Metro COG’s future multimodal transportation initiatives.
As a major collector roadway, the 17th Street N corridor is important for area residents and the businesses it serves. The street is excessively wide for its current and future traffic volumes and requires frequent maintenance for the city. Bolton & Menk and Toole Design conducted a study to ensure the corridor accommodates existing needs and prepares for the City of Moorhead and Metro COG’s future multimodal transportation initiatives.
The local road project will improve the commercial segment and its residential segment. Study recommendations include developing a better configuration for the section south of 4th Avenue N to accommodate business and school traffic in the area, provide opportunities for traffic calming, provide an all ages and abilities bikeway, and connect the sidewalk network. Recommendations to enhance the section north of 4th Avenue N include implementing ADA-compliant curb ramps and pedestrian routes along the corridor, provide opportunities for traffic calming, and incorporating bicycle facilities for non-motorized travelers in the area.
Our combined team of engineers, planners, and landscape architects provided solutions that were financially feasible, fully functional, and aesthetically beautiful.
